We are making changes here.  Once I'm ready to republish the site there will be a lot of new changes to the site itself as well as some things we are working on.  Stay tuned!

Amelia had 9 beautiful pups on the 25th of March.  Today they are one week old and are just so cute!!  Looks like we have 3 blacks, 1 mink, 1 american blue and 4 unknowns.  As they are still young these are just guesses.  There are both standard and dumbo ears as well as standard and rex coats.  The rex whiskers are adorable and very rexy.  I have one week pictures posted on their litter page.

There are so many good choices in this litter it's going to be hard to decided who to keep and who to adopt out.  I hope this litter takes it's time to grow up because our next litter isn't until September!

Keep checking the site every week for updated pictures!!

The pups will be going to their homes this and next weekend!  We have some great adopters for this litter, like always :) I am very excited to see the babies go to their new homes but all sad at the same time.  We love having babies in the house!

Almost everyone is buying some of our feed which really helps the rats become self sufficient, meaning they pay their own way and not out of my pocket lol.  We are not quite there yet, however we are getting there.  If we continue to work on our rat store site and keep advertising our food that we have now then the rats will be taking care of themselves so to speak.

With the food, I currently sell 3lb quantities for 8$.  This is a standard base diet, it is not a full diet you will still need to provide fresh fruits and veggies.  This consists of Mazuri Lab Blocks, Doggy Bag Dog Food (for protein), Rolled Oats and Black Oil Sunflower Seeds.  Once the rats have more money to buy their own things we will be able to offer another food choice.  The mix has a lot more yummies in it and it varies every batch to what is in season.  However once this mix is available to the public it will be a bit more pricey due to all of the different things that will be in it.  But I will tell you your rats will NOT be disappointed!

Other news!  This girl right here (Amelia) will be put into breeding with LOR Fish on Friday!!  We are expecting some amazing pups.  Both soon to be parents are super sweet and loving and have wonderful personalities.  We are very excited about this litter and to see what results come of it!  It will be an American Blue MM English Dumbo X Black MM Self Rex cross.  We can't wait to see the outcome!

Continue to follow our blog for updates and just what's happening at the rattery!

The babies are so big!  I have finally decided who will be staying to continue the program.  This evening everyone on the waiting list will be making their picks of the litter.

Considering letting the pups go the second or third weekend in March.  They are all so awesome and fun to play with!  Their personalities are just amazing!

I can not wait for March to roll around so that we can pair Amelia with Fish.  I am very excited for this pairing.  I have a few other ideas for some future pairing.

This is what I'm thinking about and these are not written in stone :)

Eveleen X Fish in September or October 2013
Eveleen X Eli four months after her first litter.

This is just an idea and I'm saving it here so I can come back to it!

I am going to be focusing on a black self line and an american blue self rex line right now.  These are going to be my main focus so that I can work on my goals.

We have had a lot of changes, difficult decisions and big life events over the past couple of years.  I am hoping for more consistency this year with a few new changes.

I apologize for all the changes we have been having since we opened in 2009 however as I learn about the breed, the people and the demand I have to update things accordingly.  So I can not promise that there will not be anymore changes I just ask that you bare with me as we figure out a good operation that works well for us.

Just to update a bit:

I was hired at a company full time at the end of 2011 which I love, you can read more about it in the about us section on the site.  So I am working 40 hours during the week but have the weekends mostly to myself.  There when I first started I was also working at a gas station part time, I mean lets face it jobs are hard to come by so when I was offered two at the same time I took it.  My schedule was crazy from August 2011 - November 2011 where I was working 7 days a week.  My schedule was 3-11 Monday thru Friday at the company I'm at now then on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights I worked at the gas station from 12AM to 8AM so two of my jobs were over lapping on Fridays and Sundays.  It was very tough to do and I only had two days off that entire period and only because I asked.  I finally had to quit the gas station for my health and sanity.  So during that period I was not breeding and all my rats were staying with my close friend.  My schedule at work of course got more difficult as soon as I left the gas station.  I had one full weekend off then I started doing 12 hour shifts on the weekends because we became short staffed.  That went on clear into almost August of 2012.  It was very close.  I am now getting onto a schedule I feel comfortable with having a small amount of rats again and I am breeding at a small scale.

I am now engaged, we will be getting married in September of this year if all goes to plan :).  I have also joined a local gym which I am going 3 days a week with my fiance and good friend and then 2 more days a week to see my personal trainer.  So we have been very busy here!

I am going to start blogging again.  I'm going to try to do at least once a month sometimes more sometimes less just depends on our schedules.  Some of my entries will be about babies and this and that, some maybe about events I'd like to try or things coming up.  Sometimes it maybe just a bit random.  We will just have to see.

I feel this year is going to be a good year for the rattery.  New year, new me!  I am going to be putting forth more effort into the rat store and hopefully get that going as we can always use the sales to benefit the rats!  I DO NOT make money off of the rats.  I work full time as stated above, my fiance is currently working part time.  We make pretty decent money however it goes straight into our bills and our pets.  Mostly pets haha.  I pay for my rats out of pocket, I would like for them to be more self sufficient which is one of my major goals this year.  Any suggestions are defiantly welcomed for the rat store or what ever you have in mind :)

Anywho, thanks for reading all my rambles.  I just wanted to get this kick started!  Hope you enjoy

Okay so there has been some things changing here in the rattey.

If you are following us on facebook then you already know about some of the changes to come.  If you didn't know where on facebook, well check us out, our group page is Love of Rats Rattery & Rescue we keep that updated as much as possible.

I have been working two jobs at 7 days a week.  I don't have a whole lot of time to sit down and work with the ratty things like I did.  So with this happening here I have decided to invite Fallen Stars Rattery to merge with LOR and become one rattery in two different areas as we can please twice as many adopters :)  So Amanda from Fallen Stars is now co-owner to Love of Rats and is taking on our name.

We will be both focusing on different lines and goals but we will be working together.  So the chances of us having something that you want will be much greater!

We are still figuring some things out on new policies and making up a look that we can both "fit into".

I have created a new email account so we can start fresh and we can both access the same stuff we will just be signing our names so you know who you are contacting with.

I am very happy to be announcing these changes and to be helping Amanda with her start into the rattery world.

RESCUES:
Don't think I forgot about the "Rescue" part of the rattery.  Right now while I am trying to figure out my end with working a lot I will NOT be taking in rescues for the time being.  I hope to  change that in the future but for now you can contact me and I will try to help you either place your ratty friends or find a rescue that can.

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them here :)

Breeder/Owner

I have decided to put my breedings on hold after the planned litters are bred and adopted out.  It was a hard decision to make as I love what I do.  I plan on re-opening once I have everything in order and can start fresh.  Now that I know what it takes to run a rattery I want to be better prepared.  As some of you may know I have been having cage issues with my girls.  So this is the plan.

I will purchase at least TWO Critter Nation cages and FOUR small Martinscages for birthing/quarantine cages.

I want to have enough wheels, hammocks, toys, water bottles and food dishes (the kinds that lock to the cages) for everyone.

I will have a good supply of bedding on hand (will be buying bedding every two weeks to keep a good stock.

I will aquire breeding sock for the FOUR main goals I want to focus in (An American Blue Line, a Hairless Line, Hooded Line (which would eventually cross into the American Blue Line, and a GOOD Rex Line).

I will be rehoming most of my girls so they will have a more "pet" life right now I will be keeping my boys and with finding the girls good homes I should have plenty of time for them.

I WILL still be accepting Rescues.  My doors will always be open to animals in need (rats, hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, rabbits, ect) if I have he space for them.  I'm sorry if this is an inconvenience for anyone, but I want to have the best head start possible when I re-open to breed.

Okay so I talked to the Animal Shelter, they would like to participate with the Adoption Fair.

So from today till the fair (Around Christmas Parade) all adoption fees will be saved for the fee of using the Brown Gym.

The cost of the gym is 45$ an hour and I DO NOT want the animal shelter to have anything to do with the costs as they are already doing a wonderful thing for those animals.

If you would like to donate to the cost of the fee for the Brown Gym it is welcomed.

Also, the animal shelter is in need of puppy and kitten food.

If you would like to donate anything to the shelter directly I am sure they would be thrilled.

I will also take collections for the animal shelter and bring them to them as I don't live far.

If you would like to be a volunteer for either the Rattery/Rescue or the Animal Shelter please send me a message on Facebook and what you would like to do to participate :)  All help is welcomed.

We would like to reserve the gym for at LEAST 5 hours which would come out to 225$ just for the Gym.

Trying to plan an adoption fair.

I am planning to have free food, canned drinks at 50cents, bottles of water for 1.00$.

I am also planning on getting Love of Rat's Rattery & Rescue merchandise, such as hand totes, t-shirts, magnets, ect. to sell at the event to help support our efforts with rescues as well as take care of our ratties.

I am going to be asking the local animal shelter if they would like to partake as well so maybe not only can we get some rats adopted but help get some dogs and cats new homes as well :)

It's not offical yet but it is deff a thought I'm going to pursue.

Any ideas and comments are welcome :)
